Battery Hydro
June 1st, 2011

Helsinki and Tokyo based design agency Musuta had created a visual style for Battery that communicated the power and energy of the new Battery drink - Battery Hydro. The drink has elements of a sports drink in it keeping your fluid balance good and helping you recover after a workout.

The abstract visual represented these properties through different elements, the key element in the concept being a silhouette of a man constructed with a animated and ever changing light grid. Some water drops, condensated Hydro fog and other elements were added to show other aspects of the product. To create and execute this look, Musuta contacted Piñata.

Final print

This very abstract look required a lot carefully hand crafted elements and the final look didn't come out easily. Piñata compositor and 2d animator Henri tells: "It was challenging to create a digital grid that was both very organic and could be changed and animated easily. At the same time we didn't want to create a "suit" over the character or just an uniform polygrid but a growing and uneven organic web which constructed itself while we were moving with the camera in the scene. That was the challenge I think". Ville, our technical artist in this case, was building the grid in 3d and simulating some water drops in the scene.

The final look and visual style was agreed first with a print, and the film was done after that. "On a style as abstract as this, this is usually the best way.", says Johanna our producer.
