“We really wanted to make each character feel different.”
Piñata created a cinematic trailer for Walking Dead: No Man’s Land, a mobile game based on the AMC’s hit series The Walking Dead.
The storyline was not your regular action packed teaser trailer. The brief from Mikael Achrén of Next Games was to get depth into the characters, go really close to them; how they feel and how they take the desperate situation they are in.
“We really wanted to make each character feel different.” Piñata director Henri Tani tells, and continues: “Not just have the familiar looking characters from the game, but reflect their personal story, where they come from and what kind of people they are.”
Jani and Ville were responsible for doing all the animation, while Oula worked on the materials, lighting and rendering. “When you’re doing something that is visually based on real world, it’s an endless list of things you can do to improve each shot.“ 3D artist Oula sums up his role as the main 3D artist on the trailer.
The animation team took up to the challenge and put a lot of effort into expressions and getting the emotion there, but there were also quite a bit of technical stuff and nuances we had to cover to get the end result look amazing.
