It was this apparently simple little animation that gave Mikko Vormala the opportunity to check one item off his career todo-list as an animator. When Fazer needed a launch animation for their new flavours of chewing gum, Piñata got to work with director Kalle Kotila of Woodpecker. The goal was to create a straightforward product-oriented animation with animated elements describing the different flavours.
Jani Karvonen took care of the 3D animation according to a rough animatic created by Mika Rantala. Mikko Vormala got the opportunity to animate the Moomin characters for one of the gum packages. "It's not every day you get to do something as iconic as the Moomin charactes.", says Mikko. "I wouldn't call this a dream come true, but hey, everything counts.", Mikko continues. "I still hope I get to animate Donald Duck one day. Until now I've only had the opportunity to do still images."
Chewing Gum Prints
Piñata also created a series of print ads for the chewing gums parallel to the animation production. About a month later we also updated the animation with new package graphics. "We knew right from the start that the graphics will be changed shortly and we built the animation so it will be easy as pie.", says Mika.
