Lotto Plus
October 5th, 2009

A true national institution of Finland, Lotto went through the biggest renewal in 29 years with the introduction of six new Lotto Plus prize classes. The guys at TBWA\PHS wanted to portray the new ways of winning as a board of military ranks with none other than Aulis Gerlander in the lead as the ex-officio general of jackpots.

Mikko Vormala started by designing the collar insignias. "I pretty much followed the familiar Finnish army shape and style, just making slight alterations here and there.", says Mikko. "We went through the different ways of making the insignias such as 3D and CGI, but soon decided this calls for real-life embroidery. Once the design was approved and we found the cloth we wanted to use, the actual manufacturing was quite straightforward and easy."

While the embroidery was under way, Rami Riihijärvi built a preliminary 3D-scene to design the badges and chevrons as well as to plan the overall lighting of the images. "Jani Karvonen then photographed the collar insignias with the correct lighting and they were masked out and added to the scene.", says Rami. "Some additional geometry was built to render the appropriate shadows, but mostly the finishing work was just putting the pieces of the puzzle together."
