The inspiration for this cuddly animation created for Aurinkomatkat came from Antti Kaarto of JWT/Activeark. Idea was to create a heavily hand crafted animation in the manner of old 60s paper animations like the nostalgic Hinku ja Vinku.
All the elements created from paper clips are folding and coming together in different ways forming new illustrations and elements animating differently. Piñata director Henri Tani explains: "We wanted to bring an old school hand crafted feel to the animation, so most of the ideas came after cutting up some paper in different ways, folding and playing with it in our studio. Together with Jonna, however, we took some creative freedom here and there to make the characters and animations appear more fun!"
Henri adds: "From the start we wanted to use the traditional ways of creating this kind of animation. It was nice how the process of actually creating the assets wrote some of the story itself! For example, the idea for the first shot with the couple came when I noticed we could fold the flower to form a heart shape. This formed to the idea of the couple falling in love again. The rest of the story pretty much followed that same principle; woman relaxing in the hammoc while sun is shining, umbrella in the cocktail glasses etc. And the nice conclusion of the story: new years eve over the rooftops of romantic Paris..."
