Through lighting and colors we emphasized the illustrative feel of the shots and matched the footage to painted backgrounds. Or sometimes the other way around: matched the backgrounds to fit the footage better.
Combining painterly style and live footage Piñata created this spot to celebrate Domino cookies´ 60th anniversary. The film dives into the imaginary world of a child through illustrative style; everything out of focus and in the room are loose and artsy while the boy and his grandmother were kept realistic. The idea was to surround the characters with a tad of magic and warm nostalgia, and match the overall look of the film to the print campaign launched earlier.
"Challenge was to bring the painterly style to the live characters through grading and match them to the illustrative feel of the backgrounds and other characters. Or sometimes the other way around; matched the backgrounds to fit the shots better. " says Piñata motion artist and designer Henri. He continues: "On the shoot we used lighting and colors that would emphasize the illustrative feel of the shots, and we had rough guide for light direction and color to follow. And luckily in cases like this you can do a lot to the feel and look afterwards, since most the final look is builded in post."
