Finnair Season Opening
April 1st, 2009

A new addition to the series of ads created for Finnair, this time it was all about promoting the beginning of a new summer season. Art Director Piia Seppälä wanted to capture a true holiday feeling in the picture with vivid colours, deep blue skies and a bright overall mood.

Tuomas Korpi decided to bring the sun and some rays of light into the equation to make the impression as summery as possible while still avoiding the lurking soap ad-likeness. "I already had a good amount of experience of creating clouds for Wild Horses and Lomalennot and that part was quite straightforward this time.", says Tuomas. "Turkka and Rami handled the sunglasses nicely in 3D and I had an easy task just putting the effects together."

At the finishing stages Tuomas did some fine tuning painting more detail on the clouds once the big mass had taken it's form. "I also got to make the beach and city illustrations on the lenses.", says Tuomas. "It was fun working with more vector-style silhouettes. It' something I don't get to do very often in combination with these kind of images."

The challenging part in the process was working in several logical layers all the way through to get the needed material for an Adshel outdoor animation. "The sunglasses were the easy part, but keeping separate clouds detachable and mobile is kind of tricky since their material and lighting is so strongly affected by their position in the surroundings.", says Tuomas. "Besides the Adshel-animation Henri Tani created we also had to consider web banners and various shapes of ad media in designing the deliverables as versatile as possible."
