Handmade treats is a piece of artwork produced for Karl Fazer Exclusive chocolates. We were approached by Mega Maunula of Hasan & Partners to create an intriguing backdrop for a stylish box of chocolates. The picture was going to be a combination of graphic line illustration and windy banks of snow, and the challenge laid in combining the two very different elements together.
Snow is not one of the easiest things to do in 3D, so Jerry Ylilammi created some clever material and lighting solutions to give the landscape it's desired look. Jerry and Tuomas Korpi pitched illustrations and rendered elements back and forth so the two would form an even flow in the final picture. Besides blending the lines in with the landscape, Tuomas paid extra attention to the colour palette. Some of it was derived from the product itself with a twist of northern lights, and the rest tuned to create a soft and snowy feel to the landscape.
